Gardening Tips

Hello Gardeners, IT'S MULCH TIME!!

Summer is the time of the year where we need to ensure that our garden beds and soil have been mulched to provide moisture to our plants during this hot period.

We provide a good range of mulches to satisfy all your mulching needs.

If you are after a mulch with aesthetic appeal as well as providing that much needed moisture benefit to your plants, we recommend black or karri and peat mulch.

Dsatco lupin mulch is also proving popular as a mulch because the straw will provide nutrient value to your plants as well as mulch benefits.

You can also use Franks Organic Sheep Manure (FOSM) to mulch your garden. FOSM will retain the moisture that is required for your garden as it will act as a mulch. FOSM will also provide excellent nutrient essentials that your soil and plants need for healty plant growth.

When mulch and soil conditioners are applied to the soil, fungi and soil bacteria begin breaking down organic matter into individual components, releasing nutrients in the process. Moisture and air temperature regulate this release as well as controlling the plant growth, so the two go hand in hand. Mulches and soil conditioners are probably best described as slow release fertilisers.

The advantages of mulching garden beds is that a layer 50mm thick will protect them from wind erosion and evaporation in summer. In winter mulches act as a temperature buffer, maintaining soil warmth and promoting healthy growth in the colder months.

All Formygarden.com.au mulches are as effective as each other, the only difference being in texture and appearance.
